Earned Income Disregard

Congress has placed a heavy emphasis on economic self-sufficiency for families living in public housing. One method is to assist newly employed families through an earned income disregard when calculating their rent. The benefit is available to adult family members, previously unemployed, who get a job, or to family members who recently received welfare benefits who are now employed or get a pay raise. Benefits may last for up to 24 months and will vary by family.
