In accordance with HUD regulations, all Section 8 families are recertified once a year. The purpose for this is:
To make certain that the information Section 8 has about the family’s composition, income, and deductions are correct, and
- To determine the rental portion to be paid to the landlord by housing assistance payments and by the family.
- To accomplish this, packets are sent to family with an appointment date and time. The family must complete the packet and attend the appointment with all requested information. If the family fails to comply and/or complete their annual recertification within the allotted time frame, they may be cancelled from the program for non-compliance of program rules.
Once the family’s recertification is reviewed, calculated and entered into the computer system, the landlord and the client will receive a letter which shows the family’s new rental portion and HACSL’s Housing Assistance Payment (payment to landlord).
